Spring Peepers First Appearance

Unusually warm late winter weather has encouraged not only the crocuses and daffodils, but early solo performances by the long-awaited Spring Peepers.

As the sun set on Friday, March 12, 2010, the temperature hovered close to 60°. The snow from an unusually heavy February snowfall had all but disappeared. The birds continued their chirping well beyond sunset. From the wetland preserve area behind our house there appeared a lone voice, chirping rather loudly. The peepers had returned! Although it seems a bit early... Spring can't be far away!!!
